Free Dextro remix
by admin on Sep.04, 2010, under Blog
There’s a free remix by me of Dextro over at his site. It was intended to be on this bad boy but, despite attempts at pruning, I couldn’t cut it down to less than a whopping eight minutes. For shame.
It’s kind of in two parts within a single track, and I have to say I was really pleased with how it turned out. It’s one of the few times that one of my efforts has been actualised in a way that tallies completely with the composition I had in my head. That probably more of a comment on my production powers than anything else… Anyway, it continues on the path that I trod with Ghost Tracks
Please promote, share, harangue, etc wherever you can.
In other news, I’m working on a proper live set in anticipation of a live gig at the venerable Lab30 festival in Augsburg this November. I’m really looking forward to it; hopefully my recent purchase of Native Instruments’ Maschine, which I already love dearly, will be used to the fullest.
Writing some new stuff too. Hopefully more news on that soon.
Also, ‘With An X’ was featured on the Boomkat-affiliated ‘14 Tracks’ site, in their ‘Dance Du Jour’ selection. Well chuffed.

You can now get the podcast I did for Clash magazine here – the original link required registering with the site but I figure everyone who’s ever going to get with that will have done it by now.
A whole bunch of stuff
by admin on May.28, 2010, under Blog
Apologies for the lack of updates from me. I became a parent, which, in the book of excuses, ranks as a pretty good one.
‘Ghosts Tracks’ is out now on the estimable Highpoint Lowlife. I’m really glad it’s out there. Should be available on Beatport, Juno, iTunes and Boomkat.
I’ve made a mix to help pimp the EP – a podcast for Clash magazine, entitled ‘The First Door’. I’m pretty pleased with it.
To read more about it, please note I’ve moved the mixes to a separate page. Apologies to anyone linking from the Clash article who may have issues finding them via their linkage.
All the tracks on the EP can be previewed on Soundcloud, which, together with this site, is rapidly negating the utility of updating murdochspace at all. Thinking of canning the myspack completely – it’s a cumbersome piece of shit that deserves to die. There’s a bunch of other tripe on Soundcloud too.
I’m on twitter innit.
I made a Facebook fan page.
Think that’s about it.
Reading: I’ve just started devouring GB84 and I’m pretty impressed with it.
Listening: Been stuck on a loop getting ‘The First Door’ done, but basically Mount Kimbie and James Blake have been doing it for me recently.
“Ghost Tracks”
by admin on Feb.19, 2010, under Blog
My 5-track EP, initially entitled “The Bear Tracks”, has been returned from the estimable mastering talents of Audible Oddities and is, if I may say, sounding lush. After some discussion with Thorsten, we’re going to go with “Ghost Tracks” as a title instead. The unmastered versions are still previewable on the Murdochspace.
Nothing definite about a release date yet, but 5th April is likely.
I’d been contemplating a change in direction recently, turning to slower, dirge-like 4/4 territory, but being so pleased with the “Ghost Tracks” may lead me to try and fuse that with the more dubsteppy sound. I’ve been listening to a lot of Four Tet and Linkwood, plus a bit of Omar S who I like more in theory than in practice, so might channel the more traditional PU sound alongside my new-found acceptance (i.e. non-hatred) of some forms of house music. Here’s a first draft of something I did. (speaking of Soundcloud, there’s an Aaliyah/The XX bootleg there too. I’m not knocked out by The XX, but I thought the intro on their album was great and far too short, so I quantised and extended it for DJ use.)
(Firstborn is due in two weeks today!)
Mixage

After a small site tidy-up, mixes are now located via the handily entitled ‘mixes’ link in the top-right of the screen.
Solid Steel
by admin on Jan.21, 2010, under Blog
An excerpt from my mix ‘Some Smartass Pawns’ was featured on this week’s Solid Steel radio show. For those who don’t know, it’s the Ninja Tune/Coldcut/DJ Food affiliated show, and that means I’m properly honoured to be in the company of, essentially, my DJing heroes
In other news, my AK automatic rifle remained unused for the duration of the day. Verily, today was a good day.
I’m going to make a section for mixes on here as soon as I get my finger out, so the link will be back up then. For those eager and no doubt multitudinous fanboys, use Google cache – the link hasn’t changed.

I’ve taken the liberty of editing the traditional jaunty tripe that Wordpress plasters into one’s first post.
Some website jiggery pokery been happening, thanks to institutional dullardry and cheap prices. Props to man like Ruaridh TVO for his technical steez.
A liberal sprinkling of verbose misery will eventually trickle from here onto your poor consciousness. I’d move on if I were you.
